Jordan has concluded an agreement with the Paris Club member countries to reschedule a sum of $2 billion. The sum will have to be paid by Jordan during the period from July 2002 until December 2007. The agreement enables the Jordanian government to pay debt services to the the Paris Club creditor countries in full extent. Jordan's debt in the Paris Club is estimated at $3.8 billion and its total foreign debts are estimated at $7 billion, approximately 75% of its GDP. The agreement will allow the country to keep an optimum level of foreign reserves, will ease debts burden service and will help to support the balance of payment without having to borrow from world financial markets.
